When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, phone number, job title, and organizational affiliation.
Business Profile Data
To facilitate trade verification, we collect business registration details, trade licenses, tax identification numbers, product/service descriptions, certifications, and other documentation you provide during the verification process.
Transaction Data
When you use deal rooms, escrow, or other transactional features, we collect information related to your trade activities, including deal terms, milestones, payment amounts, shipping details, and compliance documentation.
Usage Data
We automatically collect information about how you interact with the platform, including pages visited, features used, search queries, browser type, device information, IP address, and access timestamps.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Verification: To verify your identity and business legitimacy as part of our trust and identity layer.
- Matching: To connect you with relevant trade partners across our supported corridors.
- Compliance: To run regulatory checks, sanctions screening, and ensure trade compliance with applicable laws.
- Communications: To send you platform notifications, transaction updates, and service-related messages.
- Platform Improvement: To analyze usage patterns and improve platform features, performance, and user experience.
3. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in the following circumstances:
- Trade Counterparties: Verified business profile information is shared with your trade counterparties as consented during deal room participation.
- Verification Partners: We share relevant business documentation with third-party verification and inspection partners to complete verification processes.
- Legal Compliance: We may disclose information when required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, including trade compliance and anti-money laundering obligations.
- Service Providers: We work with trusted service providers who assist with platform operations, payment processing, and analytics under strict confidentiality obligations.
4. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, regular security assessments, and secure infrastructure. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
5. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services, comply with legal obligations (including trade record-keeping requirements), resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Transaction records, deal-room artifacts, and compliance documents may be retained for extended periods as required by applicable trade and financial regulations.
- Trade records: Up to 7 years (U.S. recordkeeping rules and AGOA documentation requirements).
- Deal-room evidence: Retained for the life of the deal plus 5 years for dispute resolution.
- Verification documents: Retained while your verification badge is active and for 3 years thereafter.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access and receive a copy of your personal data
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information
- Request deletion of your personal data (subject to legal retention requirements)
- Object to or restrict certain processing activities
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent

7. Cross-Border Data Transfers
BizWithAfrica facilitates trade across U.S.–Africa corridors. By design, your information may be transferred between, stored in, and processed across the United States, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, the European Union (where you have EU-based counterparties), and other countries where our service providers operate.
We use safeguards aligned with the data-protection regimes that apply to our users:
- EU / EEA / UK (GDPR): Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum cover transfers from EU buyers to U.S. and African processors.
- South Africa (POPIA): Cross-border transfers comply with Section 72 of the Protection of Personal Information Act; we obtain consent or rely on contract necessity for trade execution.
- Ghana (DPA 2012): Transfers comply with the Ghana Data Protection Act; we are registered with the Ghana Data Protection Commission as required.
- Kenya (DPA 2019): Transfers from Kenya rely on the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner’s lawful-basis framework, including consent and trade-contract necessity.
- United States: We honour CCPA/CPRA rights for California residents and apply equivalent controls to other state-level privacy laws.
